The New Yorker Festival in 2020 was a complicated project because the world was constantly in flux. Initially concepted as an in-person event, we had to craft a design that still spoke to the city, which was now frozen in place due to the Covid-19 crisis.
We worked closely with BUCK to get the animation and illustration for this right, so I wanted to make sure we were including key sequences on the page and giving them the proper attention. We felt the final animation really encapsulated an optimistic New York--a must in a year of crisis.
Here's a look at the full design, which served as an information hub while we figured out how to organize our very first remote New Yorker festival.
